Welcome to Aeterna Roma!
The year is 73 AD, one hundred years after the founding of the Principate. Emperors have risen and fallen, wars have been waged, and the Roman Empire finds itself in the tenth year of Emperor Quintus Flavius Caesar Alexander Augustus, whose rule has proved strong and prosperous after a period of relative instability. However, the empire is changing; new philosophies and ideas threaten to compete with Rome’s most ancient traditions, rumors are whispered of tension along the empire’s boarders, and, as always, ambitious men and women seek to make their own mark in history. Where will you fit in? And will you survive a world where lust, treachery, and greed runs thick, or will your name fade into the recesses of history?

Personality

Jocasta has grown into a young woman who is generally viewed as kind and aloof. This is both true, and misleading. As a child she was bubbly and full of energetic life, always laughing and playing with a big smile on her face. She was given everything she wanted, and pampered to excess. This carefree genesis to her life has instilled in her an internal feeling of melancholy at times. Now faced with 'real life', she's suffered through, and still mourns, the loss of her treasured father. In a way she's kept her youth as a time capsule, although some memories are faded and blurry, the emotions she had remain vivid in her recollections. Always carrying a hole in her heart for her father, she has done her best to live up to what she believes her father would expect of her.

This has been difficult, as his death when she was seven gives her little to frame her life with. He always wanted her to marry well, and give him grandchildren as beautiful as he always said she was to him. Beyond that, she often finds herself thinking differently than her step-mother at times. During these episodes, Jocasta generally remains mute, wanting to become a well-brought up young lady but not always trusting her step-mother holding the same vision for her as her father held. Jocasta can have moments of internal struggle from this, which she keeps to herself, and has built a sense of discipline around.

She prefers to think for herself, even if she doesn't voice her opinion. Not a very strong voiced lady, Jocasta has more of a quiet confidence. She is self-assured, and believes only someone who actually listens to her softer words deserves to know them. Understanding she has little power herself, she is strong willed when it comes to her own decisions, but in a fair and neutral way. Not one to argue or engage in heated verbal fighting, she finds herself able to diffuse those situations rather than be a part to them. By being more internal, others have often labeled her aloof, and would perhaps use the word snobby, if she didn't have as kind of a heart as she does.

Although she may appear self-centered, it is more confidence in knowing herself that gives her the air she possesses. She is a gentle creature, releasing bugs outside rather than killing them. There are moments in her life where she can become very overwhelmed, lacking the ability to forcefully stand up for herself, she tends to be one who needs a stronger leader whom she can trust. Jocasta hopes to find that in a future husband, and wishes to be his partner and emotional companion as well as a friend and lover. Her expectations may be much more than she'll receive, and Jocasta hopes to find someone like her father to wed.

Holding her tears for her pillow, she isn't one who is often moved to crying, and in general holds her emotions very evenly. She is someone who can and will keep secrets. Not possessing a devious side, she has seen how destructive that personality type can be, and tries to avoid that as much as possible. Gossip and drama will not start or continue with her, she is a fair minded woman who much prefers her own domestic pursuits than interfering in other people's lives. She dreams of being the faithful wife to a faithful husband who has a just and protective nature, as well as a mother.

Trying to keep a realistic mindset, she can be vulnerable in overthinking things, as well as hurt easily if someone breaks her trust. It is not easy to get Jocasta's full trust, the only one whose ever had it was her father, but loneliness has been giving her bouts of depression. It frightens her to bare her heart and soul to another, but she knows she must do so someday, with the hard understanding she may be hurt by it. It terrifies her to think of losing someone close to her in the same way she lost her father, so it will take some very special people to truly befriend her and find her heart.

Appearance

A redhead, Jocasta takes after her mother's coloring and smaller build. She is five feet even, with a slender form, and blue eyes. From her father she received her smoothness of skin, and several facial characteristics and mannerisms. She arches her brows like her father, and often mimicked his expressions when she was young. Her ears were large when she was a child, but thankfully stopped growing and allowed her other features to catch up. Because of her hair color, Jocasta generally favors earth toned clothing, without too much color. Browns, tans, and creams are favorite selections, with an occasional pale yellow or white. Her hair is versatile for her, and she loves to vary the way she styles it, using her hair to make her ensemble memorable rather than her clothing choices. Although she is not muscular, her body is capable, and she has always been a healthy individual.

History

CHILDHOOD [0-12]:
Loved at first breath, Jocasta was instantly daddy's little girl from the moment she was born. Her mother died upon her birth, but she endeared her father to no end. Cared for by a wet nurse for her first few years, when she was three Lucan purchased Sanga Vestoria to be her caregiver. The slave was kind to Jocasta, although she later found out how much scheming and manipulation the woman brought to the Victorianus domus. Jocasta found herself competing for attention from her father for the first time when he became involved with Sanga, married Cornelia, and quickly had a son with each of the women.

As she grew a bit older, Sanga and her two children were freed and moved away, kept by Lucan secretly unbeknownst to Jocasta and Cornelia at the time. Things settled with less drama around, and Jocasta found that her father often used time with her as an escape from the pressures of the Senate and family troubles. Jocasta was on good terms with her step-mother and step-brother, however she didn't find a closeness with them that Decima especially wanted. Opening her heart only to her father, they forged a peaceful, loving bond that neither of them had elsewhere.

Jocasta's world changed completely when she was seven. Her beloved father and both uncles were killed during the purge of Rome. She was taken by her step-mother out of the city for safety, and found her first taste of fear and the hard reality of life. With no adult blood family left, Jocasta struggled for several years in the care of her step-mother. She never quite felt at home, and being unsure of where she fit into the family she kept mostly to herself.
TEENAGE TO EARLY ADULT [13-17]:
Coming into her teenage years, Jocasta began to feel more comfortable around her step relatives, and found a friend in her half-brother Lucian. She and her brother were only a few years apart, and were taught by the same tutor for several years. Learning to read and write, Jocasta began to feel a sense of protectiveness over Lucian in response to Cornelia's occasional hovering, and often found diversion in playing games with him.

Jocasta's relationship with her step-mother has evolved over time. For unknown reasons to her, Cornelia always seems to be pressuring Jocasta for a stronger bond, almost as if there is some underlying tie between Lucan and Jocasta that Cornelia wishes to be apart of. It was no secret that Cornelia and Lucan's marriage was strained because of Sanga, Cornelia almost miscarried their son because of it. While Jocasta remained relatively unaltered, Cornelia often needed reassurance from her lack of confidence at times in her position in the Victorianus domus. As her step-mother is worried over raising Jocasta and Lucian to the standards that Lucan would have desired, Jocasta has become the unconscious link for the rest of the family to hold on to the dead senator.

Despite never truly feeling connected on a deep level with anyone but her father, Jocasta has now reached the age where marriage is looming on the horizon. As a young woman walking the line of having no blood family but feeling the obligation to carry out her life as her father would have wished, Jocasta is trying to grow into adulthood. Having lived a relatively quiet and normal Roman life, it's time for her to brace herself as she immerses into this new stage of her life.
